Yogan Muller’s drone journey began at UCLA in 2022, when he introduced and taught drone photography and photogrammetry at the Design Media Arts Department. The second iteration of this class focused on the Los Angeles Aqueduct, one of the three water conveyance systems that brings life to SoCal’s urban behemoth. This class earned him the 2024 UCLA Unit-18 Professional Development Award. At UCLA, he also joined transdisciplinary teams, leveraging high-precision remote sensing platforms and workflows such as photogrammetry, NDVI, and LiDAR to conduct aerial surveys for grant-funded research projects.
/ EXPANDING ON 20+ YEARS OF LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY
For Yogan Muller, Ph.D., aerial data capture is an extension of landscape photography, an artform he’s been practicing on rugged terrains (such as Iceland and the American West) and teaching professionnaly for more than 20 years. His work has been shown and published internationally. Over the past decade, he has developed workflows that suit the subtleties and complexities of long-term project documentation.
